This weekly newsletter primarily covers news of what is happening in the marine industry in Australia. However, we feel it is important to keep the industry advised of overseas events that involve Australian interests. Three overseas shows feature this week.
In Europe METSTRADE is the largest marine trade show in the world. ATL Composites and their European joint venture company, vdL Composites will attend this year's METSTRADE Show in Amsterdam, 19 to 21 November, exhibiting the DuFLEX panel building system, developed in Australia and now industry standard for boat builders the world-over.
"METS is the world's largest trade exhibition of marine equipment, materials and systems," said Lorraine Murray, Director at ATL Composites, based on Queensland's Gold Coast. "It's important to connect with our customers and our partners in Europe and show them the innovative ways DuFLEX can be used in boat building, saving production time and delivering lighter weight, stronger boats.
Staying in Europe, some long-discussed ideas of collaboration were brought to life at the Monaco Yacht Show, 25-28 September 2019. The South Pacific stand in the Darse Sud tent promoted the region with representatives from Australia, Cook Islands, Indonesia and PNG. The collaboration was a huge success with a large number of vessels indicating travel plans to visit the region over the next two years. The Tuesday night before the show, the Australian and South Pacific exhibitors attended the Asia-Pacific Superyacht Assoc. (APSA) function sponsored by Superyacht Australia, strengthening relationships between the businesses and countries.
In the USA, manufacturers scored big at the 2019 National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA)/Radio Technical Commission for Maritime Services (RTCM) Marine Electronics Conference & Expo, held late last month at the Renaissance Hotel in Portsmouth, Virginia. A total of 18 products received top-category honours in three separate award competitions: NMEA Product of Excellence Awards and Manufacturer of the Year (voted on by the NMEA membership), the NMEA Technology Award, and new this year: the Best New Product Award for manufacturers who introduced new products for the first time at the NMEA/RTCM Conference. FLIR was recognized and honoured with awards for Raymarine ClearCruise AR (Augmented Reality) and the FLIR M400XR Marine Thermal Camera System. The NMEA Technology Award names a single marine electronics product that scores highest in the same four criteria categories that were used for the Best New Product Award. The judges chose Raymarine ClearCruise AR as the winner from among eleven entries.
Also from the USA, Revere Survival Inc, safety specialists with over 80 years in the safety and survival business, have added another high quality liferaft to their range. The Revere USCG/SOLAS Compact Liferaft is a robust design, developed from a product that has been used by the military for more than ten years.
With its SOLAS and US Coast Guard Approvals, the liferaft is designed to give a reliable performance in the harshest of conditions. Packed into a low-profile container, the raft takes up 40% less space than a comparative cylinder liferaft, making it ideal for space saving efficiency. It has a maximum stowage height of 18m.
Back in Australia, Coral Sea Marina Resort in the Whitsundays, Queensland has been awarded Platinum accreditation under the Global Gold Anchor Scheme.
