National Safe Boating Week returns from 30 September to 6 October with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of lifejackets and responsible boat ownership ahead of the summer season.
Before you head out on the water, make sure you:
- Wear it and check fit - Your lifejacket is your lifeline. Always wear it and ensure it fits secure and snug.
- Service it - Just like your car, your lifejacket needs regular service. When was the last time you checked yours?
- Carry a distress beacon - Accidents can and do happen, so be prepared to be found with an EPIRB or PLB distress beacon.
Whether out on the water for fishing or sailing, or just for fun with friends or family, every skipper has a responsibility for the safe operation of their boat and for everyone on board!
