Marketing innovation drives marine industry expansion: ABC unveils top industry voices

by African Boating Conference 21 Mar 00:18 PDT 21-22 October 2025

The African Boating Conference, set for October 21-22, is bringing together a powerful lineup of speakers whose international knowledge and expertise will provide valuable insights for application in African marine markets and local industry. Among the key voices at this year's event are Kevin M. Williams, transformative marketing leader at the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) and Discover Boating, and Arturo Gutierrez, General Manager of Freedom Boat Club - Europe, Middle East, and Africa.

With a focus on innovation, inclusivity, and accessibility, the conference aims to provide African stakeholders and international delegates with cutting-edge insights that will drive industry expansion, encourage boat ownership, and unlock the region's marine potential.

As Vice President of North American Marketing at NMMA and Discover Boating, Kevin M. Williams plays a pivotal role in crafting dynamic marketing strategies that attract and engage the next generation of boating enthusiasts. His session will delve into emerging consumer trends, opportunities for market expansion, and the vital role inclusivity plays in creating a sustainable marine industry.

"The marine industry is confronting many of the same challenges faced by other sectors and must adapt its marketing and business strategies to engage today's consumers—especially younger, more diverse audiences—on their own terms," Williams explains. "Bringing new boaters into the fold isn't just about boosting boat sales; it's about nurturing the entire ecosystem—from manufacturers and dealers to marinas, waterfront communities, and all the services that support the boating lifestyle."

Leveraging his experience in developing groundbreaking strategies for global brands like BMW, Coca-Cola, and Verizon Wireless, Williams brings deep expertise in branding, audience engagement, and market expansion. With a strong track record of executive leadership, he will share invaluable strategies to make recreational boating more accessible, sustainable, and appealing to the next generation of enthusiasts.

As General Manager of Freedom Boat Club - EMEA, Arturo Gutierrez has played a pivotal role in the club's international expansion. With over 410 locations and 100,000 members worldwide, Freedom Boat Club is the largest boat club operator globally, pioneering an innovative shared economy model that is redefining boating accessibility.

Gutierrez's keynote, "Unlocking Africa's Boating Potential: Innovation, Accessibility, and Sustainability," will address critical industry topics, including:

  • Expanding Marine Accessibility - How Freedom Boat Club's membership-based model can attract new participants and boost tourism.
  • Sustainability & Environmental Impact - The role of eco-friendly practices in shaping a responsible boating industry.
  • Infrastructure Development - The importance of investing in marinas, docking facilities, and regulations to support industry growth.
  • Economic & Employment Opportunities - How a thriving boating sector can create jobs, empower coastal communities, and stimulate local economies.
"Africa represents an exciting new frontier for boating," says Gutierrez. "With its vast coastline, rich waterways, and growing middle class, the continent holds incredible potential for marine recreation and economic development. I look forward to sharing our success in other emerging markets and discussing how boat clubs can help make boating more accessible."

Williams and Gutierrez join an already impressive roster of industry leaders, including Pantaenius Insurance expert Martin Baum and Australian superyacht marina visionary Paul Darrouzet. The African Boating Conference 2025 is committed to delivering high-impact discussions and actionable strategies that will resonate with both local and international delegates.

With Africa's marine industry poised for significant growth, the conference provides a unique platform to explore market expansion, innovation, and sustainable development—ensuring the continent's boating sector remains strong, relevant, and globally competitive.
