After several months of enjoying low flooding potential, many locations in the East, West, and Gulf Coasts find themselves facing the likelihood of high-tide flooding in October. Major harbors such as Boston, Charleston, and Galveston are all likely to see flooding on or about the full moon, on October 6, and the new moon, on October 21, during what are known as the spring tides.
Flooding is possible in the Chesapeake, while the Southeast is likely to see its highest tides of the year this month and may see flooding due to water levels alone (impacts of weather may exacerbate these impacts).
Make sure to print out the tide chart for your part of the coast so that you can keep track of the water levels in your favorite harbors.
