by US Sailing 20 May 14:11 PDT

US Sailing has announced that Mike Van Dyke, California sailor and current board president of CISA, has taken a position as a director on US Sailing's Board of Directors.

"We are so pleased to add Mike to the Board of Directors," said Board President Rich Jepsen. "As we look towards LA2028, Mike's experience within the Long Beach sailing community will be crucial to getting us ready to excel at our home Olympic games."

Van Dyke is well known in the California sailing scene. He is the president of the California International Sailing Association, also known as CISA, which runs one of biggest advanced youth clinics in the US. He is the past commodore of both Long Beach Yacht Club aa well as Alamitos Bay Yacht Club, two institutions in the LA sailing community. He has worked with sailing programs across the spectrum, from high-performance youth sailing to learn to sail and adult sailing programs. As a sailor, Van Dyke found success in the offshore sailing realm, setting the elapse record in the Transac Hawaii - Tahiti, and multiple others.

"Being based in Southern California, I want to ensure we are prepared for the coming Los Angeles Olympics in 2028," said Van Dyke. "As president of CISA, the original advance racing clinic, I am involved in the youth development disciplines and have been able to collaborate with the US Sailing staff at a high level and look forward to expanding that relationship.

In my professional and volunteer life, the experience I bring is a deep understanding of parliamentary procedure, strong financial background, and a commitment to adhering to a fiduciary standard. I am a team player by heart and enjoy working on a team with common goals."

Going forward, Van Dyke aims to improve communication between US Sailing and members on the ground, improve opportunities for new sailors, and facilitate cooperation between sailing centers during his time on the board.

In his professional life Van Dyke is a graduate of Texas A&M University and Cass Business School in London. He is currently a partner in the Shadden Group, a financial advisory firm specializing in family and nonprofit financial consulting.

Mike Van Dyke joins a board with 15 voting members, including five athlete representatives, five members with additional high performance and offshore experience, and three members who are leaders in the community sailing arena. The board also has leaders in the race official world, in non-profit governance and One Design Sailing. US Sailing is fortunate to have such a diverse and qualified group of Board members able to serve the variety of subjects for which U.S. Sailing, as the national governing body, is responsible.
