BIA (Boating Industry Association of Australia) members are invited to suggest issues to raise at an upcoming peak national consultative meeting in May with the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA). BIA Ltd represents the industry at AMSA's National Safety Committee throughout the year.

The BIA intends to raise with the committee the issue of periodic survey of Class 4 houseboats, application of Coxswain 3 to non-hire operation of larger Class 4 vessels and broadening the scope of vessel operations that will form part of the new simplified SMS standard. Members who would like to suggest other issues to flag should email neil@bia.org.au by 15 April.

Continuing the safety message, Marine Rescue NSW volunteers across the state responded to a record number of search and rescue missions over the Easter long weekend. Volunteer crews completed 163 search and rescue missions including 54 emergency responses over the four days, safely returning 440 people to shore. The previous busiest Easter for Marine Rescue NSW was in 2022 when volunteers completed 154 missions. Marine Rescue NSW Deputy Commissioner Darren Schott said favourable weather over the Easter break led to high numbers of boaters hitting the state's waterways.

The Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show takes place next month and ILIAD Catamarans is expected to be a major drawcard for visitors to the show (May 23-26). Exhibiting in conjunction with its Asia Pacific dealer The Yacht Sales Co, ILIAD Catamarans will showcase the ILIAD 53F, which is nominated for the prestigious 2024 Multihull of the Year award. The remarkable ILIAD 62 power catamaran will also be at the show and available for inspection by appointment.

In Asia, world-leading brands are on show at the Singapore Yachting Festival (April 25-28) which includes The Yacht Sales Co incorporating Multihull Solutions. Representing the world's finest sail and power yacht brands including Fountaine Pajot, Dufour Yachts, Maritimo, ILIAD Catamarans, Tesoro Yachts, NEEL and LEEN Trimarans, and Cora Cat, yachting enthusiasts can visit the companies' Southeast Asia team in Sentosa Cove's ONE degrees15 Marina to discuss buying, selling and how to enjoy the yachting lifestyle in the region.

No people - No boats. It's so true, no matter whether you're talking lamination or design, accounts or electricians, reception or woodworking, engineers or fabricators. The hands craft the dreams, and Maritimo is certainly proud of the people who constitute the big family. Maritimo's Operations Director, Phil Candler, comments on the value of the individuals that come together to form the organisation. Himself an 11-year service 'veteran', his knowledge not only comes from that overarching role he performs, but also from the time spent with the Founder, Bill Barry-Cotter, over the decades, and the management team at Maritimo.

Also, Maritimo has appointed Dubai Power Boats as its exclusive dealer in the Middle East, representing their luxury Australian motor yachts in the Gulf Cooperation Council regions, including United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. Building on Maritimo's reputation in offshore powerboat racing, having competed in Dubai and Abu Dhabi to be crowned 2019 UIM XCAT World Champions, the proudly Australian-made marque is looking forward to the exposure and promotion a respected dealer in the region will provide, through a presence at yacht shows and via their extensive database of clientele.

New products to Australia this week include the "TackingMaster", a marvellous innovation for anyone sailing tactically with a compass. While the TackingMaster is ideal for dinghy, skiff, and small yacht sailing, it is equally of great benefit for crews and skippers on larger yachts. In a matter of 10 seconds, you can set the wind direction, the heading mark, and you will have your ideal tacking angles, reach angles, and downwind coordinates. As the wind angle changes, a quick adjustment recalibrates the angles and bingo you have your new headings. Made in Denmark, TackingMaster can be worn on your wrist or fixed to your vessel, requires no batteries, and provides a great visual of the sailing in front of you.
